A new era begins this season as new ownership takes over the struggling franchise. Unfortunately, there was not enough improvement in the roster during the off season to make a significant improvement this season. Blaine Gabbert is the franchise QB who simply has not lived up to his billing. One of the reasons for his poor performance has been his lack of support. Last year, the offense was not one dimensional, it was no dimensional. Only Maurice Jones-Drew is a true threat and he needs some help up front and down the field to be effective. Defenses stack to stop Drew forcing the ineffective passing game. TE Mercedes Lewis needs to have a big year to give Gabbert a chance. Rookie WR Justin Blackman has the potential but lacks maturity to be a major contributor in his rookie campaign. The defense is shaky as well with CB Aaron Ross one of the few bright spots and a defense which lacks depth. It will be a long season in Jacksonville with much of the focus on how to continue rebuilding the franchise with the next draft.
